Kavita India begins with a simple recognition: poets across the country often work in isolation, separated by language, geography, literary institutions, and publishing networks, even though they are engaged in a shared artistic practice.
The word collective is central to this initiative. Kavita India is not envisaged as a literary organisation built around a few individuals, nor as a platform designed primarily for events and publicity. It is a community of poets who come together to read, listen, discuss, translate, question, encourage, and learn from one another. Its strength lies in the participation of its members and in the relationships that grow among them.

Translation
Translation occupies a special place within the life of the collective. India's poetry remains divided by linguistic boundaries even when poets confront similar experiences and artistic questions. Translation offers a way of crossing these boundaries.
Kavita India encourages poets to work together in translating one another's poems through discussion, correspondence, workshops, and collaborative sessions. Translation is understood here as a shared act of reading and discovery — one that enlarges the possibilities of every language involved.

The Journal
A periodic online journal, published annually or half-yearly, will document and extend the work of the collective. The journal will carry poems, translations, essays, interviews, conversations, archival materials, and reflections emerging from the interactions fostered by Kavita India.
It will serve as a meeting place for languages and traditions that rarely appear together within the same publication.
Plurality as Practice
The idea of a pan-Indian collective of poets carries particular significance in our time. Such a collective does not seek agreement or uniformity. It rests upon the conviction that different languages, traditions, aesthetics, and histories can remain fully themselves while entering into conversation with one another.
