Kavita India: The Poets' Collective — Inaugural Online Series, July 2026

Inaugurating July 2026

Poetry across
every language
of India

Kavita India is a collective of poets writing in the many languages of India — a space to read, listen, discuss, translate, and learn from one another.

"Poets across the country often work in isolation, separated by language, geography, and publishing networks, even though they are engaged in a shared artistic practice."

Kavita India brings these dispersed conversations into relation. It is not a literary organisation built around a few individuals, nor a platform for events and publicity. It is a community of poets who come together to read, listen, discuss, translate, question, encourage, and learn from one another.

01

Community over celebrity

A poem is valued for its artistic achievement, not the prominence of its author.

02

Translation as citizenship

Translation is a shared act of reading and discovery that enlarges the possibilities of every language.

03

Oral traditions matter

Poems are sung, recited, performed, and remembered. These are not secondary to written literature.

04

Plurality as practice

Different languages and traditions can remain fully themselves while entering into conversation with one another.

A poem carries
meaning, even as language
crosses its own borders—

it burns
within the silence,
finding its way.

A meeting place
for languages

A periodic online journal published quarterly, carrying poems, translations, essays, interviews, archival materials, and reflections emerging from the interactions fostered by Kavita India. It serves as a publication where languages and traditions rarely found together appear in the same space.
